The minimum compensation for death due to an accident was increased from Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1,20,000.

Minimum Compensation for Permanent Total Disablement:
The minimum compensation for permanent total disablement was increased from Rs. 90,000 to Rs. 1,40,000.
Revision of Wage Ceiling
The wage ceiling for calculating compensation was raised. Previously, the maximum monthly wage considered for compensation calculation was Rs. 4,000, which was increased to Rs. 8,000.
Medical Expenses
The amendment introduced provisions for the payment of reasonable medical expenses incurred by an employee for treatment of injuries caused by an accident arising out of and in the course of employment.
Funeral Expenses
The amount payable towards funeral expenses was increased from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 5,000.
Timely Deposit of Compensation
The amendment made it mandatory for employers to immediately deposit the amount of compensation with the Commissioner when it becomes due, rather than waiting for an award to be made.
Penalty for Default
Provisions were made for the payment of interest and penalties in case of default by the employer in depositing the compensation amount within the stipulated time. The rate of interest was set at 12% per annum, and the Commissioner could impose a penalty up to 50% of the compensation amount.
Simplification of Claims Procedure
The amendment aimed to simplify the process of filing claims, making it easier for employees to seek compensation without facing undue procedural hurdles.
Appeal Provisions
The amendment specified the conditions under which appeals can be made to the High Court, clarifying that appeals are permissible only on substantial questions of law and within a period of 60 days from the date of the order.
Appointment of Commissioners
Provisions were made for the appointment of additional commissioners to expedite the adjudication process and reduce the backlog of cases.
Coverage Expansion
The amendment expanded the scope of the Act to include more occupations and categories of workers, ensuring broader coverage and protection.
