The NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) was established on 1st January 2015, replacing the Planning Commission. It serves as the premier policy think tank of the Government of India, providing strategic and technical advice on key developmental issues. NITI Aayog promotes cooperative federalism by involving states in policy formulation and implementation. Functions of NITI Aayog:

Structure of NITI Aayog:

• Chairperson

The Prime Minister of India serves as the Chairperson of NITI Aayog, providing overall leadership and direction. This leadership role ensures that the Aayog’s policies align with India’s long-term economic and social goals.

• Governing Council

The Governing Council comprises Chief Ministers of all States and Union Territories with legislatures, along with Lt. Governors of other UTs. • Regional Councils

Regional Councils are formed to address specific issues affecting multiple states or regions. These councils are chaired by the Prime Minister or a nominated member, ensuring region-specific development initiatives and problem-solving.

• Vice-Chairperson

The Vice-Chairperson is appointed by the Prime Minister and acts as the executive head of NITI Aayog. This position plays a crucial role in policy design, coordination, and implementation. The Vice-Chairperson oversees expert committees, ensures policy coherence, and manages day-to-day functioning of the Aayog.

• Full-Time Members

NITI Aayog includes a few full-time members who are experts from diverse fields such as economics, science, and public administration. • Part-Time Members

• Ex-Officio Members

• Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
